Saintly Tuesdays - Deliciously Healthy Homemade Chocolate

Let's face it, every woman and her dog (or handbag, more likely) has always wanted scientists to create a delicious, healthy chocolate. You know, a bar of chocolate which satisfies your sweet tooth, without adding pounds to your body, and forcing you to look like a sausage in your favourite skinny jeans.

To me, healthy chocolate always seemed to be a bit of an oxymoron. It just doesn't go, doesn't it?

Well, I didn't think it did. Until I got my hands on some cacao butter and I realised that you could make your very own healthy chocolate, right from scratch - and it's easy peasy, utterly fool-proof.

Combining just THREE ingredients, this Delicious, Healthy Homemade Chocolate is possibly one of the greatest recipes you'll ever try. In fact, you won't know ever need to run your supermarket out of Cadbury's Dairy Milk again.

Healthy chocolate recipe

All you need to make this is cacao butter, unsweetened cocoa and maple syrup - it's that simple. You can get experimenting with flavourings if you like (I love adding orange extract to mine, or chopped nuts), but it's just as good plain.

Go on, give it a go...

Cacao butter homemade chocolate

(Makes 20 chocolates)

100g cacao butter (I buy mine on Amazon)
6 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
4 tbsp maple syrup (or more, if you want it sweeter)
Vanilla / Orange / Strawberry extract / Chopped nuts (optional)

1) Melt the cacao butter in a saucepan over a low heat. Remove from the hob, then whisk in the cocoa powder. Once combined, stir in the maple syrup, then any of your chosen flavourings.

2) Pour into ice cube moulds, then place in the freezer for around half an hour to set. Leave for half an hour before easing from the moulds, then enjoy.
